To get distortion do you have to have a distortion knob on your guitar amp?

I want to buy a guitar and was wondering, to get distortion do you have to have a distortion knob on you amp? I am just learning and have a budget, so I am buying a Dean Markley GT1000 Micro Amp or a Danelectro Honeytone N-10 Guitar Mini Amp.

Some amps have built in distortion. I've got a Dano Honeytone myself, and let me tell you that you don't want it as your main amp. It's awesome for walking around the house and playing, but nothing else. It does have a built in distortion, but is not
